The Fort Bragg hoe-down at Rodeo Bar last night was a helluva time, and with Jeff "Doc" Lampert on pedal steel, they're twice as enjoyable.

The levels and balance between Jeff and the rest of the band could use a little fine tuning; the steel was definitely too loud at points. Moreover, with Lampert doing almost all the soloing, he seemed more like a "Dueling Banjos" combatant than a well-integrated band member. But Lampert is hugely talented. His fills provided some essential variety, and made this into an unforgettable performance.

With Lampert, some production tweaks and a couple new songs, these guys could quit their day jobs.

Performance Piece 27, HERE Arts Center, Spring/6th Ave
John and Lindsay were brilliant in their shmaltzy duet, and the entire crew of would-be Slovaks were funny and sexy as advertised. Accents varied preposterously between Russian, French, Mexican, and English, although the hillarious Mistress of Ceremonies with the dangling earings was apparently the real thing.

Opening act with women drowning themselves is transparent tubs was also great; it felt political, like maybe an allegory for anorexia.

It'd be cool to do new soundtrack with updated voiceovers, free, for the govt of canada wildlife commercials.

Last night, playing audience collaborator in a pilot for "Video Explosion" at the "NYC HORROR FILM FESTIVAL KICK OFF BASH" at Don Hill's, I saw the concocted horror of Reality TV first-hand. I'm amazed that reality show hosts, with the exception of Ex-treme Dating's "Jillian Barberie," have neither spontenaiety nor a sense of irony . Rich described the whole event, from the scripted banter to the indiscernible difference in the crowd's screaming, as bizarre in many ways. The non-00agents video, a grease cover, sucked.

Afterwards, Psycho Charger, the punkest bastards ever, came on stage in saran-wrap costumes, with a righteous contempt for the earlier crowd: "I thought this was a horror film festival!" I haven't enjoyed a show like that since I left California.
